Gavin joins Kaizen with over 30 years’ banking experience in markets operations and operational risk and control assurance roles.

Gavin spent seven years at HSBC from 2008-2015, firstly as the EMEA head of operations control, leading a number of teams managing risk and control self-assessment, balance sheet substantiation, AML post trade surveillance, client money segregation, sanction screening and management information reporting. There he established a first-to-market Regulatory Reporting Unit focused on trade and transaction reporting control and assurance, where the team were invited by the UK regulator, the FSA (now FCA) to talk to other regulators at the EU Parliament in Brussels. His last three years at HSBC were spent in a new 2LoD function focused on controlling the risk of inappropriate trading and trade capture. This targeted team worked closely with Front Office, COO’s and desk heads to establish supervisory trading control standards.

After leaving HSBC in 2015, Gavin worked as a consultant in 1LoD and 2LoD roles at NatWest Markets, SMBCE and SMBC Nikko Capital Markets. 

The early part of his career was spent at Deutsche Bank including running their emerging markets middle office and emerging markets operations teams across a number of EEMA locations as well as New York and some Latin American locations. Gavin also spent three years at RBS from 2005, as an operational risk relationship manager focused on Front Office, Sales and core support teams carrying out 2LoD guidance, challenge and oversight across the full operational risk framework.
